My new arm candy- a life inspiration story

I'm not the kinda girl that kills for a handbag. I don't desire  all the latest It-bags but hey, when I really like one, when my name is written all over it, well, I melt.
This lovely one was on my wish list for half a year (they had a beautiful grey one at Rio in Ghent http://www.riostore.be), but I was strong and waited.
A few weeks ago, I was in Paris for a show, and during our shopping later, we passed by Stella's shop in Paris.
There it was: The Falabella Bag
The feel? Soft and slouchy leather feel. Yes, no real leather because Stella is against animal use. This material is so sensual, so fabulous to touch... Sorry, but I surrendered.
The details? A striking silver chain trim, featuring a single press stud fastening and double chain handles, it is the elegant simplicity that stole my heart.
Oh yeah, did I mention, I got this beauty from my man? I did.
Thanks my love. Thank you Ivan.

Stella store in Paris, and the soon 'to-become-mine-bag'
Yes, this shopping bag is standing on my table at home. From the Stella Mc Cartney store, indeed.

The Falabella Bag, no, MY Falabella Bag open for more stuff.
The Falabella Bag closed as a clutch.

Stella herself addicted to her own bag. I understand. Completely.

Tom Ford, always a man of style and very good taste (ever seen the fabulous movie 'A single man'?) made with this article an intriguing point.
I love it.
Ford says he's tired of the cult of youth.
As the art director for a jewelry shoot he "imagined a man and a woman who had been together for a long time, faithful to each other and always incandescent with desire.”
This image as a smashing and let's be honest, very sexy result.

“I am tired of the cult of youth. The cultural rejection of old age, the stigmatization of wrinkles, grey hair, of bodies furrowed by the years. I am fascinated by Diana Vreeland, Georgia O’Keeffe and Louise Bourgeois, women who have let time embrace them without ever cheating. Society today condemns this, me, I celebrate it. For this session of fine jewelry, I imagined a man and a woman who had been together for a long time, faithful to each other and always incandescent with desire.”

Waiting for Jack-a life inspiration story

Ah, friends. I heard it 'through the grapevine' that our old chap Jack introduced his own first flavored variation on Belgian ground. For my US readers, I'm talking about Jack Daniel's honey and whiskey liqueur, you-without a doubt- all tasted all ready. Lucky bastards!
We are huge Jack fans and this is exciting news.

I hear about "hints of honey" and "a naturally smooth finish". Great.I personally mostly hope it tastes like our one-of-a-kind and unmistakably good old Jack.
My bottle is on its way, and I promise: a tasting session will be organised at our Wallstreet Building. Soon...

Last minute Terracotta Army-a life inspiration story

It becomes a habit: checking out an exhibition on it's closing day.(Remember Damien Hirst in London and Basqiat in Paris)

This one, again, we couldn't miss. From 18 November 2012 till 17 February 2013 (that's today!), the Brussels Bourse hosted the landmark Terracotta Army exhibition : a reconstitution of the terracotta army of the first Emperor of China  Qin Shi Huang.
Qin Shi Huang who became emperor at the age of 13 lost all track with reality and obsessed as he was by immortality, he ordered the built of a 'dead city' with an enormous army to join him when he died.
This TERRACOTTA ARMY was the last great archaeological discovery of the 20th century after that of the tomb of Tutankhamun
The first pieces were found by Chinese farmers in 1974 and this spectacular 8000 terracotta statue army was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

From 18 November 2012 till 17 February 2013 (that's today!), the Brussels Bourse hosted the landmark Terracotta Army exhibition : a reconstitution of the terracotta army of the first Emperor of China Qin Shi Huang.

Over an area of 800 m², reconstructed to the original scale, we could see more than 150 warrior statues, horses and chariots and a look into the pit in which they were found.
Great to see is the expressions on the faces of this army: all different, full of emotions and detailed as they were real.

The enormous size of the archaeological site in which the mausoleum is buried, can never be as impressive as in real life but this exhibition tries to give an impression. And that's good.

The entire exhibit is interesting but the fact that all are replica's spoils a bit the fun.
The biggest merit of the expo is that you get fascinated by the story behind this fabulous archaeological site, and that you want to see it for yourself.
So, see it as a warming up, a good taste before the real dish.

Food of the week-a life inspiration series

No, it has nothing to do with some late New Years good intentions, but I really want to eat healthier, more conscious and taste all different ingredients. Take time to enjoy preparing, time to enjoy taste. As we did before time was not short.
It still is, but hey, we'll make time.

So, this will be a small diary about what was on my different dishes last week, home made, restaurant food, diners at friends.
Not weekly but as this blog is always: when I feel like it.
Bon appetit.

Wrong start! Minor trendwatching exams. 14 students in one day. No time to eat but this croissant and a Cécemel. Bummer.
Better! Wok mushroom, spring onions and garlic. Yes!
Ready: lukewarm mushrooms on rucola salad, balsamico truffle and some parmesan flakes.
Lovely scallops with Iberico ham at http://www.de-baronie.be/node/83
Lunch with my mum.
Green tea and a sweet heart for Valentines day at my hairdresser Cut, Paste and Paint.
A power breakfast to start a home office working day.
Blue berries, greec yogurt, bio honey and pine nuts
Soft milk sandwiches with cheese. Lunch with team Studio Verne, make up artist Adelien and our models during photo shoot  underwear an 'pj' label Eskimo http://www.originaleskimo.com.
Lemon chicken by a recipe of our beloved Ghent super model Cesar Casier. His book Models Kitchen http://thecesarsalad.blogspot.be/2012/06/cesars-modelkitchen.html is one of my latest favorite books, and we tried all ready a few with loads of success.
The lemon chicken was great.

Today we visited the exhibition The Chinese Terracotta Army in Brussels(more in next blogpost), and we went for a quick vietnamese lunch in the museum's neighborhood. A small friendly resto called Yaki, with good, fresh and cheap food. On the picture: a yellow curry with prawns. And a Singha beer.

Gourmand scents, a quest-a life inspiration story

I don't remember when we fell in love with the not so easy scent of incense. Off course I know from our childhood the weird ceremony in our catholic church, where incense was used in a silver burner and walked around by the priest. Why? No idea, but it gave a cerebral mystique feel and as we are looking more and more for authentic moments and full-filing sensations, my quest for this scent began in Paris last month.

Rick Owens' store there was filled with a sensual scent that took over our mind. We entered his place, his world and it felt familiar. Intimacy, devotion and silence on a moment we least expected it, just by some candles burning in a store.
Scent as a travel in our mind, a happiness endorphin that worked for me.

So, back home, we started looking for that perfect scent, that perfect candle that would bring this same energy, feel and mystique.

First we found a candle from Cire Trudon at Your in Antwerp, the store from our friend JorritCire Trudon candles have been referred to as the “Rolls Royce” of candles. This old French manufacturer produces one of the world’s most prestigious candles of very high quality. We bought the 'spiritus sancti' candle after an intense 'sniffing session' in the store.
Beautiful scent in the store and in the nose, disappointing using it at home in our loft as the scent was not strong (enough) to fill the space. A pity...

Check: http://www.ciretrudon.com/les-bougies-parfumees-spiritus-sancti.php

We looked further.
In Paris we bought the fabulous parfume Avignon by Comme des Garcons. It was love at first smell. Ivan wears it daily, and I 'm seduced once in a while for a little pump.

When we found out there was a candle with the same fragrance, we were trilled. Think about it, Avignon, the memory of a medieval city in the South of France which surpassed Rome as the Catholic Church's power center in the 14th century. The scent of gothic cathedrals and Papal palaces, of tapestries imbued with centuries of incense. Of cold marble steps, holy relics and dark confessions. This should be it..

Our verdict? The recognizable smells of frankincense and myrrh open the high mass of Avignon, evolving to an almost eye-smarting, gloriously smoky and resinous heart.
The Avignon candle scent is beautiful, dark and mysterious, and certainly among the most talked about (and admired) of Comme des Garçons line. But in our home? Again, not strong enough. Damn!
Series 3: Avignon – a spicy fragrance with Roman camomile, Labdanum, Frankincense, Vanilla, Patchouly and Palisander.
Next!

It's all ready years I know about a store 'Senteurs d'ailleurs'in Brussels, so friday we decided to pay this store a visit, and check out that other 'famous' scented candle Diptyque
The candle models talk about for years as 'their scent to beat home sickness and loneliness'.

Diptyque began producing candles in 1963, and it has cornered the candle market with its exotic wax concoctions and packaging.

Diptyque's fragrance repertoire is an ode to nature and its exquisite ingredients. Seemingly simple, they are all in fact an ingenious reinvention of nature. Each fragrance brings a moment, or an extraordinary place to expression: a summer field in Provence, a cozy evening at home with the family, a a dew-covered garden in full bloom.

Diptyque's luxury scented candles are handmade in 12 steps. Each candle has its own composition of wax and wick to ensure a consistent fragrance, with a duration of more than 60 hours.

And, do they have an incense scented one? More or less. At least at Senteurs d'ailleurs the had only one that came close.
Diptyque's Myrrhe candle is both mysterious and sophisticated, earthy, spicy and aromatic. And with a good sniff of incense.
Described as "an ambery resin burned in offering, the gift of a king and a sensual scent since Ancient Times.".

And, was this thé ultimate candle I was looking for? No, not yet.
The quest continues, stories will follow.
At the moment, we light them all at once, and we feel quite blessed in our home. Thank god.

Nr°21 Image of the day

Some images can't be shared enough by people, and this is one. What a great, great idea!
Imagine, you're lying in a hospital bed as a kid. You feel like shit, you miss your friends and all of a sudden ... Spiderman pops up on your window, outside 80 feet high, cleaning your window!
3 men* from a window cleaning company in Memphis, Tennessee, came up with this amazing act to cheer up kids in hospitals. Not only Spiderman but also Captain America crawled  up and down their windows outside!
*Steve Oszaniec, his son Danny Oszaniec and Jordan Emerson became our heroes as the most famous American superheroe Window Cleaners.
(Another similar act happened at the All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. )

an extraordinary sleep-a life inspiration day

Sometimes you arrive and sleep at a place that is so special, that once in a while you think about that night.
Tazu Rous' Hotel Gent was definitely one to remember.
I realise I never posted our pictures and story on this art work made for Track. (12.05.2012 - 16.09.2012)
This outdoor exhibition in the city of Ghent took place last summer and one of the highlights was a container room build around the railway station clock. 23 meters high, only 109 nights and no surprise: after 23 minutes all nights fully booked.

Tazu Rous’ Hotel Ghent was in an extraordinary location. It closed it's door and stairs in September 2012 and to be honest, when I drive by the railway station I always look up to check if it's still there.
It's gone.

So enjoy this sneak peek of our night and try to book in Tazu's next art project.

Ivan packed for a night on 23 meters high. With me.

Door two, to reach the stairs.

Stairway to heaven
Impressive construction, and we were glad, once we arrived on the top floor.
Magnificent view, and a great sunset over our home town.
4 clocks, from east to west, and our room  build around it.

Tatzu left his name on the floor.
My man.

View from the terrace.

We didn't want to leave the room for a diner outside, so we got some typical Belgian Take Away: our famous Belgian fries

Good morning! What time is it?
